june market wrap.
candidates take the lead in a high-demand market.
Happy EOFY! It's great to see Victorian's finally catching a break, with lockdown measures gradually easing just in time for well-deserved celebrations.
Long lunches aside, hiring activity is unrelenting, with a huge number of roles across development and HR in particular. There's certainly an appetite for hungry up-and-comers at the moment, with four Development Assistants placed in the past week, while more experienced operators remain in high demand from ADM to SDM level in development, and across commercial leasing, and property sales and marketing.
These sustained levels of high demand have resulted in a market that is increasingly candidate-driven and this, in combination with the shifts in the way we work (and live) post-Covid, means that culture and employee experience are now more important than ever. The hot topic of the moment for candidates is flexible work conditions - It's now not uncommon for us to receive calls from very strong talent at very strong organisations who are considering moving on because remote working promises weren't kept post-lockdown and, conversely, candidates are starting to reject excellent offers because there is no flexibility on the table. Businesses that can't (or won't) adapt and adopt meaningful and ongoing work from home practices are very quickly being left behind.
Rather than a threat, we tend to see this shift as an opportunity for organisations to differentiate themselves. Those who lead the charge and invest in their employee experience will not only reap the reward of a better talent pool NOW, but will also future-proof by building an employer brand and real culture that will attract and retain the best people.
